When was the last time you really relaxed?
If you participated in the challenge for day two, you relaxed just a little bit. Today’s intention is to build on the relaxation flow and really let go of the stress and tension you are feeling in order to cultivate space for you to sink into a feeling of serenity.
If you’re like me, relaxation often plays second fiddle to everything else that fills our day. But, we live in a society where we are over- worked, over-stretched, and over-extended most days, so much so that when we do have time to relax, we no longer actually know how to do it.
Today, set aside a thirty minute chunk of time to do absolutely nothing but relax. Yes, you do have the time.
I’m going to share a few tools for relaxation that I hope will help you on you journey today! You may use any of these, or find a calming practice that works best for you. Whatever it is, make sure it’s something that fills you with peace and brings you into a resting state.
- Music is a great way to unwind and change your brainwaves from rapid and active, to calm and quiet. Find an area area where there are no distractions – lie down and get comfortable. This relaxing playlist is an hour long, but you can simply play for thirty minutes if that’s all the time you have. Press play, close your eyes, and allow the sounds to soothe your mind and body. Focus your mind on a specific positive thought, or a scripture that is encouraging and brings fresh hope and light to your day. Allow your self to drift away on the notes you hear, letting go of worry and any other thoughts that are keeping you from fully relaxing. - Meditation can help clear your negative thoughts, lessen anxiety, enhance self-awareness, and promote positive mental health. Apps you can download on your phone that are great for mindfulness and meditation are: the Calm app https://www.calm.com, the Headspace app https://www.headspace.com/headspace-meditation-app, and the Abide app https://abide.co.
I hope this intention today finds you well and at rest in your mind, body, and soul.
