Hi, Everyone!
Happy New Year!
I always love the freshness and beginning of a new year stretching out before me, don’t you?
Full of possibilities and dreams and journeys. It’s so exciting!
This year, I have decided to embark on a little bit of a social experiment. The other day, I was spending some leisure time on Pinterest and happened to glance up at the home screen display with all of my account stats. According to Pinterest, I have pinned over seven thousand pins. Seven thousand.
That may not sound like a lot, but suddenly, I got a tad nauseated. As in, I was a little horrified by the the amount of time that I must have spent on this social media site, pinning.
Of course, I have grand plans when I save pins.
And then I forget about most of them, yet continue to pin.
Can anyone relate?
OK, sweet.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love Pinterest. It has given me a lot of inspiration and ideas. It has also allowed me to share and showcase pins from my own blog. But you guys, the fact that I have over seven thousand pins and have not done anything with many of them is what led me to this realization – I must DO something about this.
So, this year, I have decided to put all of my pinning to good use. I will utilize as many of the pins that I have saved on Pinterest and somehow apply them to my life.
At first, I thought applying one pin per week was a good idea. My inner teacher nerd can’t wait for the skill building and creative energy. My reasonable and realistic brain is questioning my sanity and oh-so-swiftly reminding me that we only have 24 hours in a day, honey.
24
So, I will apply as many pins as I can without letting them overtake the more important priorities in my life.
Why am I embarking on this journey? Not only do I want to utilize the time investment I have put into pinning, I want to know if Pinterest can, in practical ways, change my life for the better. Will all of the hours I have spent pinning actually amount to something by impacting my life positively? Will these projects be fails or pointless exercises in busy-work? I’m so curious, aren’t you?
Clearly I have spent countless hours online over the past several years pinning, and pinning, and pinning. I have completed a few projects and loved them, but if I am pinning and not applying- there’s really not a point to my having amassed all of these pins, right? In the end, it has just been time-wasting if I do precious nothing with the resources waiting for me on Pinterest boards.
I’m nervous about the time investment this little experiment will require, but I’m going for it.
Here’s how it will work.
As often as possible, I will choose a pin from my Pinterest board to apply to my life and then blog about them. The pins could be anything. Like a craft DIY, trying a new recipe, implementing an organizational tool, or tackling a cleaning project. Sometimes, I might simply choose to meditate on a Bible verse or an inspirational quote that I have pinned and then reflect on how, or if, it changed my day, outlook, mood, behavior, etc.
For those of you that know me, you are laughing at the possibility of me delving into the the food pins. I love, love, love food. However, I can’t stand to cook it, bake it, chop it, or make it.
But I will try.
I promise.
Here are the categories that I will be focusing on this year (in no particular order):
- Physical Health (workouts, healthy eating, etc.)
- Home (decor, organizing, cleaning, DIY)
- Beauty (products, hair, makeup, etc.)
- Fashion (what to wear, style, etc.)
- Relationships (marriage, motherhood, friendships, etc.)
- Finances (saving, debt reduction, etc.)
- Mental Health (mindfulness, meditation, yoga, etc.)
I’m a little nervous, but I’m a lot excited.
I’d be thrilled if you’d join me!
XO,
Catherine
Hello, fellow Hope Writer! Enjoyed looking around your lovely blog. Great way to redeem pinterest time. Blessings on your 2016!
Hi, Kelli!
Thanks so much for stopping by! I am so looking forward to this little Pinterest adventure – I would love you to come along!
What an awesome idea! I love this so much. I don’t know if i’m committed enough to do three a week but I definitely need to start applying all of my pinning to my life too!
Hi, Amanda!
I think it may get a little crazy for time, but I’m going to stick with it. Thank goodness I have lots of different types of pins for inspiration. 🙂 Maybe you could set a more do-able goal tailored for your own schedule. I would love to see what you might try!
I love this idea. I’ve been considering something along the same lines, just without the blogging component. I’m with you–if we don’t use the ideas then we’re just wasting time.
Hi, Tammy! Thanks for stopping by today. I’d love to know what projects you choose and how they turn out!
