Ok, I have a confession to make.
I am a book hoarder.
And what’s worse, I often read several books at once. My nightstand can barely contain them.
Because I love books, and I am easily distracted, I read bits and pieces of books, and often never finish every single one I started.
I wonder if you are like me. You want to read all of the things, but in your haste to cram it all in, you only gather the crumbs of some really great reads. It’s like a smoker who lights another cigarette while another is burning in an ashtray across the room. That was an unhealthy analogy, but you get it, right? 😉
I wanted to change this bad habit of book neglect and really want to finish all of the ones I have started, so I set an intention. I closed all of the books except one.
Yes, I am currently reading only one book.
Hallelujah!
So, today’s intention is for you to set boundaries with your books. This practice will rock your reading world.
Step one: Approach your books.
Step Two: Say goodbye to all of them, but one. For now.
Step Three: Make a list of the books you would like to read, in order of completion.
Step Four: Put all of the books that you are not going to be reading on a shelf or in a space away from you.
Step Five: Dive in to the one book you chose and enjoy the read!
I am going to leave you with some suggestions of the books I have been loving or have loved (I confess that for some, I have only read a few chapters of each).
- Unashamed
- Educated
- David and Goliath
- When Breath Becomes Air
- Freefall To Fly
- The Last Arrow
- Crazy Love
- Full Catastrophe Living
- The Brain That Changes Itself
- The New Jim Crow
Happy reading!
From a fellow book hoarder, I must give to you my gratitude for this post. I seem to approach (or rather deal with, or NOT deal with, depending on which side of the fence you land) reading from a “I am so overwhelmed by all of these books- oh look! Netflix” angle. It is terrible… the pile grows, and I LOVE books, reading, all of it- but the actual act of reading often times seems overwhelming.
MUST CHANGE THIS…
